Stick bugs at Seljaskóli

Thanks to the efforts of science teacher Eva María, the science classroom in Seljaskóli's upper primary division has welcomed six stick bugs. Stick bugs are insects, and countless different species can be found across the globe. The stick bugs at Seljaskóli are an Indian species that thrives in an enclosure with plenty of food and adequate humidity. Students are welcome to hold the slow-moving stick bugs, which sometimes dance to mimic small branches swaying in the wind. They blend naturally into their surroundings — looking exactly like small twigs — and need a real branch inside their enclosure to hang from. 
Students at Seljaskóli are learning to respect these insects, as stick bugs are fragile and require a very gentle touch when handled. The stick bugs are still young and will hopefully continue to grow and thrive in the days ahead. Today, excited and curious 2nd-grade students had the chance to observe and handle the stick bugs, and every one of them showed impressive gentleness throughout.
